Is your bathroom prepared to handle a new influx of usage?

Ensure that all drains are being frequently cleaned out & checked. Your bathroom may generally perform well under regular circumstances but with more frequent usage, you may be in for some new surprises. 

Clogging of toilets and shower drains is certainly a common holiday problem & definitely a thing to watch out for, try to regularly clean out both these drains & keep a plunger handy just in case. 

Is your geyser equipped to handle extra heating? 

With a lot more people in your home, far more dishes to wash, far more clothing items that need to be washed & far more bodies that need to be washed, it is normal for your geyser to feel overwhelmed & overworked.

Geysers giving up is a common holiday plumbing problem. It is best to ensure that your geyser is in tip-top shape & that you give it some time to breathe throughout the day. Perhaps look at putting together a schedule for the geyser usage, to try & limit the strain put on the geyser. 

Don’t throw things in the sink. 

It may seem easier to put dishes in the sink with all the leftovers still on the plate because they look as though they may fit down the drain quite easily. 

This is not the case, these items may more often than not, cause drainage issues due to blockages, which is probably the most common holiday plumbing problems. Try to make emptying dishes into the bin before placing them in a sink, a habit.

Do your guests know what goes in the toilet & what goes in the bin? 

With more people using your bathroom, you may find that a few items slip into the toilet bowl, that does not belong there. 

Items such as sanitary pads, cotton balls, earbuds, cigarettes & wet wipes do not belong in the toilet, these items need to be disposed of in a bin. Try and set some ground rules for your guests when they arrive to avoid any issues. 

Basically, you need to be careful about what you put into your drains and be alert for your drains & possible clogging. These issues may seem small in the bigger scheme of things, but these common holiday plumbing problems can definitely cause you to incur unnecessary costs.
